On 4 September 2024, H.E. Mrs. Vilawan Mangklatanakul Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Slovenia paid a farewell call on H.E. Mr. Marko Štucin, State Secretary for European affairs, economic diplomacy, international law and the protection of interests of Slovenia.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress of cooperation in promoting relations between the two countries in various fields and discussed ways to pursue further collaborations. The issues that both sides give importance to include convening the 2nd Political Consultation Meeting and the 1st Economic Council Meeting in Thailand in 2025, promoting cooperation on medical technology to treat cancer with the Slovenian company, Cosylab, as well as utilisation of the Port of Koper for expanding economic opportunities in Eastern Europe. The cooperation in the United Nations forum was also discussed and views were exchanged on the current world situation, such as cybersecurity, climate change and the violent situations in Ukraine, Gaza, and Myanmar.
At the same occasion, Ambassador Vilawan also met with H.E. Ms. Mateja Norčič Štamcar Director-General and Political Director of Slovenia, to determine a plan of actions in advancing the bilateral relations.
Thailand was the 1st country in ASEAN to establish diplomatic relations with Slovenia, on 9 September 1992. Both countries have enjoyed cordial relations ever since.
