Congratulations to the Chulalongkorn University on Being Selected for the 9th Round of the UNOOSA-JAXA KiboCUBE Programme

The Royal Thai Embassy express its sincere congratulations to Chulalongkorn University. The satellite project, "CUSAT-1," has been officially selected by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) as a winner of the 9th round of the KiboCUBE programme.

On 10 June 2026, H.E. Ms. Pattarat Hongtong, Ambassador of Thailand, attended the announcement ceremony which was held during the 69th COPUOS at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) and delivered a congratulatory remarks on this special occasion.

The KiboCUBE programme is a global initiative aimed at narrowing the space divide by allowing educational and research institutions from developing nations to deploy CubeSats from the Japanese Experiment Module “Kibo” aboard the International Space Station (ISS). In this latest round, Chulalongkorn University was selected alongside the Key Institute from El Salvador.

The Thai CubeSat "CUSAT-1" aims to support sustainable water management and environmental protection in Thailand. It collects data to monitor drought and flood conditions in agricultural areas and provide imagery that can help identify agricultural burning, contributing to efforts to address PM2.5 pollution. These achievements reflect also the growing potential of Thailand’s space sector and our commitment to advancing science, technology and innovation for sustainable development.

The Embassy congratulates Chulalongkorn University on this accomplishment, which highlights the progress of Thailand's higher education and research sectors. We look forward to the successful deployment of the CUSAT-1 mission and remain committed to supporting the development of space technology and research initiatives by Thai youth and researchers.
