The Royal Thai Embassy in Vienna Celebrates Regional BIMSTEC’s Cultural Heritage and Friendship in Vienna
On 9 September 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in Vienna, in collaboration with Diplomatic Society Magazine and the Embassies of BIMSTEC Member States in Vienna, hosted the BIMSTEC Reception “Tasting the Bay: Heritage and Harmony in Every Bite” at the Eurostars Grand Hotel Wien. The event celebrated the rich cultural diversity, historical heritage and friendship among BIMSTEC Member States through food, music and cultural performances.
On the occasion, H.E. Ms. Pattarat Hongtong, Ambassador of Thailand to Austria, highlighted in her remarks Thailand’s key role as one of the founding member of BIMSTEC, which began with the signing of the Bangkok Declaration in 1997. She reaffirmed Thailand’s strong commitment to promoting cooperation between South and Southeast Asia and advancing regional connectivity and cooperation through the BIMSTEC Bangkok Vision 2030, which envisions a region that is prosperous, resilient, and open.
The Royal Thai Embassy also presented a traditional Thai dance performance by members of the Thai community in Austria, entitled “Siam’s Honour & The Blooming Lotus,” portraying the beauty and elegance of Thai culture through the symbolism of the lotus, a symbol of spiritual purity, enlightenment, and warm hospitality. A selection of Thai dishes was also served, allowing guests to discover the rich flavours and culinary traditions of Thailand.
The evening was warm and convivial, with guests enjoying the diverse food, music and cultural traditions of BIMSTEC Member States. The reception highlighted the strong bonds and rich diversity that bring together the peoples around the Bay of Bengal, while providing a welcoming setting to strengthen friendship and people-to-people connections among BIMSTEC countries and Austria.
