The 61st Session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency
H.E. Mr. Songsak Saicheua, Ambassador and Resident Representative of Thailand to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), headed the Thai delegation’s participation at the 61st Session of its General Conference from 18-22 September 2017 in Vienna.
In delivering Thailand’s national statement on 20 September 2017, Dr. Atchara Wongsaengchan, Secretary-General of the Office of Atoms for Peace of Thailand, reaffirmed Thailand’s continued support to the work of the IAEA, especially in promoting nuclear applications for development, and stressed the importance to the IAEA’s Technical Cooperation Programme, which has contributed to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in Member States. In addition, Thailand informed the Conference of its national and regional efforts in the promotion of safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear technology.
Furthermore, at the sidelines of the Conference, the Office of Atoms for Peace of Thailand organized an exhibition entitled “Nuclear Technology for Human Health in Thailand”. The exhibition showcased how Thailand has utilized nuclear technology in various health-related areas such as medical diagnosis and treatment, improved nutrition, and control of vectors and vector-borne diseases. Thailand also expressed its readiness to cooperate with any interested parties in all relevant areas.
