Special Piano Recital to Celebrate 150 Years of Thai-Austrian Friendship

On 10 September 2019 at 19.30 hrs. the Royal Thai Embassy in Vienna hosted a special piano recital entitled ‘Court to Common: From Thai Classic to Thai Folk Music’ at Palais Hansen Kempinski Vienna. The recital was performed by Mr. Nat Yontararak (piano) and Mr. Łukasz Kurzydło (percussions). They were accompanied by dancers from the Thai Christian Communications Institute, Payap University. The programme included several works by Mr. Yontararak, e.g. Crystal Pheasant, Siam Sonata, a suite for piano and percussion ‘The Prodigal Son’, and an arrangement of His Majesty King Bhumibol The Great’s composition, ‘Somewhere, Somehow’.

The recital was part of the Embassy’s activities celebrating the long-standing relations between Thailand and Austria dated back to 1869 when the Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation between the Kingdom of Siam and the Austro-Hungarian Empire was signed. It was intended to showcase the diversity of Thai musical heritage among the Austrian public and the diplomatic corps in Vienna and to help further strengthen the cultural bonds between Thailand and Austria. The recital was attended by approximately 150 guests, including H.E. Ambassador Dr. Johannes Peterlik, Secretary General of the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria, and H.E. Ambassador Dr. Teresa Indjein, Director General of the Section for International Cultural Relations, Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria.
