On 6 May 2022, the Royal Thai Embassy organised a culinary event to promote Thai gastronomy at Chada Thai Restaurant in Koper, Slovenia, under the “Thai Kitchen to the World” project. The activity was organized as a part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Slovenia this year.
Ms. Morakot Sriswasdi, Ambassador of Thailand to Slovenia, together with Ms. Simona Volaj, Thai Honorary Consul-General in Ljubljana, the Royal Thai Embassy’s staff and Team Thailand, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Krulc, the owner of Chada Restaurant, welcomed honourable guests from the Slovenian side, such as the Mayor of Piran, Mayor of Izola, Vice-Mayor of Koper, representative from the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, important importers of Thai products, business sector, local influencers and members of the press.
In this connection, Chef Somphob Najai, Chef de Cuisine at the Thai Ambassador’s Residence, presented the guests with cooking demonstration of famous Thai dishes, namely (1) Northern-style chilli dip with tomato and minced pork (2) Massaman curry with chicken and (3) Banana in coconut milk. As the national cuisine is the image or “ambassador” of its own country, it serves as a diplomatic tool and soft power, bringing peoples closer together, enhancing people-to-people contact and strengthening ties between the two nations.
