The 58th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND)

H.E. Mr. Arthayudh Srisamoot, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations Office chairs the 58th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), held at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna, Austria from 9-17 March 2015.  More than 1,500 participants attend the CND to discuss wide range of issues related to the world drug situation as well as to recommend measures to combat the world drug problem.

For the first time in many years, the Commission will excercise its treaty-based function of scheduling substances under international control. The 53 Member States of the CND, of which Thailand is a member, will take action on the scheduling of substances with the aim to achieve a balance between preventing drug abuse and diversion while ensuring availability of medical and scientific use.
